ABOUT THE ETHNIC FOOD PARCELS
WODIN with the support of TNL Community Fund and FareShare UK we are able to offer our community during the Covid-19 crisis and premiered the first Cultural Ethnic Foodbank in Liverpool.
In order to more impactfully deliver the project and serve more families, we’ve had to source/purchase the ethnic food from Manchester Smithfield Market, a 69miles round trip. We are so thankful to our volunteers who wake up at 2am to get to the market before it closes at 10am and also find some foods across Merseyside. The same volunteers also have to drive for miles sometimes 2-3 times to deliver the ethnic food parcels to the various families, elderly, and people in Isolation. These foods are staple/local to the BME women and their families, a taste of home. Many of our elderly women beneficiaries due to vulnerabilities residents have been shielding for months without a taste of the foods they know and love.
Our volunteers also take the opportunity to carry out welfare checks and deliver sanitizing and cleaning PPE while they are out and about delivering food parcels to the isolating and shielding women and their families.
We rolled out a Cultural Ethnic foodbank providing limited authentic African foods as requested by our community. By August 6th 2021 WODIN has made a total of 339 food parcels, thanks to our volunteers’ commitment, selflessness and our partners in this program.
